Formerly the Transatlantic Networks of Excellence Program, this initiative promotes internationally collaborative basic, translational and clinical research in cardiovascular and neurovascular disease. It brings together international teams with complementary expertise to work on a common thematic problem, aiming to generate knowledge that advances diagnosis, prevention and treatment. Early career investigators play a vital role in these networks, which provide strong context for training and career development.

These Career Development Awards, offered in partnership with Pelotonia and the AACR, support early-career investigators conducting research focused on women’s cancers. The awards are part of the Victoria’s Secret Global Fund for Women’s Cancers, which aims to advance research and expand the pipeline of investigators dedicated to improving outcomes for patients with cancers that affect women.

Cure SMA encourages applications on novel research that will enhance scientific understanding of SMA disease pathology at the molecular, cellular, and biochemical level; generate key reagents and tools to facilitate drug development and clinical trials; and identify new therapeutic strategies for SMA. Particular interests exist in understanding mechanisms underlying the pathology of disease and/or identifying drug targets synergistic with SMNupregulating therapeutics for use in older/symptomatic patients. Cure SMA welcomes high risk, high reward projects and values the ability to provide seed funding for these types of exploratory projects. Please note that all projects, including those that are high risk, are generally not awarded maximum funding without compelling preliminary data.

American Heart Association Institutional Awards for Undergraduate Student Training provide funding to qualified research institutions that offer meaningful research experience to undergraduate college students. This award is made to qualified institutions that can offer a meaningful research experience that supports the Association’s mission and encourages undergraduate college students from all disciplines to consider research careers.

This program supports methodological innovation in patient-centered comparative clinical effectiveness research. Awards up to $750,000 for projects developing new methods, with priority areas including AI/ML applications, real-world data use, and patient-centered measurement development.

This program funds methodological research on how to meaningfully involve patients and stakeholders in research design, execution, and dissemination. Projects should advance understanding of best practices for community-engaged research and patient partnerships throughout the CER lifecycle.

PCORI's flagship research program supporting large-scale, high-impact patient-centered comparative clinical effectiveness research (CER). Awards range from $5M to $12M over five years. Priority areas include: mental health/substance use outcomes for pregnant/postpartum populations, cancer survivorship, diabetes prevention and treatment, and pain management. Projects must compare two or more interventions in real-world settings.

This program supports patient-centered CER projects focused on substance use disorders. Projects should compare two or more interventions, treatments, or care delivery strategies to determine what works best for individuals with substance use conditions in real-world settings.

This program supports patient-centered CER projects focused on improving health outcomes for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and/or rare diseases. Projects should compare interventions to determine what works best for these underserved populations.

This program supports PCORI-funded investigators in implementing their research findings in real-world practice settings. Implementation Projects up to $2.5M/4 years; Dissemination Projects up to $300K/3 years; Implementation Planning Projects up to $200K/2 years. Limited to prior PCORI awardees.

Open competition drawing on implementation experts and stakeholder partners to promote uptake of evidence from PCORI-funded research. Supports putting PCORI research findings into practice in healthcare settings to improve health outcomes.

An ISR is a type of grant that supports an independent research study where the investigator or organization is the sponsor of the study and where Pfizer provides financial and/or non-financial support for the development or refinement of specific and defined medical knowledge relating to a Pfizer asset. This global program is open to all researchers who are interested in conducting their own research. This grant type is used as support for pre-clinical and clinical studies (including interventional and non-interventional), that involve a Pfizer asset (e.g., commercial drug, investigational drug, pure compound*).

The Triangle Program, part of the Simons Foundation's Science, Society & Culture division, brings science and contemporary art together to engage audiences in creative ways. In Phase 1, Open Interval, an artist, a scientist and an arts organization apply together as a trio and undertake a multi-month period of sustained collaboration without a required immediate outcome. Phase 2 participants may then apply for Triangle project funding to produce new artworks investigating connections between art and scientific research.

The Institutional Challenge Grant supports university-based research institutes, schools, and centers in building sustained research-practice partnerships with public agencies or nonprofit organizations in order to reduce inequality in youth outcomes.

These Challenge Grants, offered in partnership with the Lobular Breast Cancer Alliance, support research directed at invasive lobular carcinoma, a distinct subtype of breast cancer that remains understudied relative to its prevalence. Projects are intended to address open questions in the biology, detection, or treatment of invasive lobular carcinoma.

American Heart Association AIREA awards provide $200,000 over a two-year period to support research projects at colleges and universities that provide baccalaureate or advanced degrees and have not been major recipients of NIH support to provide students exposure to research and the research environment. Awards provide funding for small-scale research projects related to cardiovascular diseases and brain health, enhancing the research environment at eligible institutions, and exposing students to research opportunities.

The Conquer Cancer Young Investigator Award (YIA) provides funding to promising investigators to encourage and promote quality research in clinical oncology. The purpose is to fund physicians during the transition from a fellowship program to a faculty appointment. This is a mentored award conducted under the guidance of an experienced mentor in the proposed research area. Applications in applicable areas of cancer research are accepted from U.S. and international applicants. The YIA is a one-year grant totaling $50,000 supporting personnel and/or research expenses and travel to the Conquer Cancer Grants & Awards Ceremony at the ASCO Annual Meeting. A YIA General Competition (all cancer research areas) and topic-specific YIA Special Competitions are offered, with different deadlines.

The Global Oncology Young Investigator Award (GO YIA), through Conquer Cancer, the ASCO Foundation, funds early-career investigators conducting cancer research relevant to low- and middle-resource settings, supporting the transition from training toward an independent global oncology research career. It is a mentored award. The GO YIA uses a two-step application process with a Letter of Intent (LOI) followed by an invited full proposal; after LOI review, eligible LOIs that fit the research criteria are invited to submit a full application. The award totals $50,000. Applications are accepted from U.S. and international applicants.

The Harvard Radcliffe Institute offers residential fellowships to 50 scholars, artists, and public intellectuals. Radcliffe supports engaged scholarship, where fellows develop new tools and methods, challenge artistic and scholarly conventions, and illuminate our past and our present. Explicitly supports humanities and social sciences research, including history.

The Harvard Radcliffe Institute Fellowship Program annually selects ~50 scholars, artists, public intellectuals, and writers to pursue ambitious individual projects in a vibrant interdisciplinary residential community at Harvard. Fellows in the humanities, sciences, social sciences, and creative arts work on projects ranging from books and films to scientific research and artistic installations. The fellowship provides a $87,500 stipend for 9 months (September-May), plus up to $5,000 in project funds, office or studio space in Radcliffe Yard, full Harvard appointments, library and athletic facility access, and the opportunity to engage Harvard undergraduate Research Partners.

Junior Fellows are outstanding young scientists who receive support from the foundation for up to three years to conduct independent research at a New York City educational institution. The foundation requires Junior Fellows to attend weekly lectures and dinners at the foundation during the academic year, as well as an annual conference and a four-day weekend retreat.

The Kavli Foundation and the Packard Foundation seek projects that expand the marketplace of ideas around the social compact for science: the expectations, obligations, and norms shaping how science is funded, conducted, governed, and held accountable to the public. Work may be led by scientists, scholars, policy professionals, or community groups and can include convenings, publications, public-view research, or planning grants. This is Phase I, a call for Letters of Interest; select applicants are invited to submit modest Phase II proposals.

The APS awards a limited number of Daland Fellowships in Clinical Investigation for research in the several branches of clinical medicine, including internal medicine, neurology, pediatrics, psychiatry, and surgery. The committee emphasizes patient-oriented research. The fellowships are designed for qualified persons who have held an M.D., M.D./Ph.D., D.O., D.O./Ph.D., D.N.P., or D.N.P./Ph.D. degree for fewer than eight years.

The Graham Foundation fosters the development and exchange of diverse and challenging ideas about architecture and its role in the arts, culture, and society. The Foundation supports innovative, thought-provoking investigations in architecture, architectural history, theory, criticism, design, engineering, landscape architecture, urban planning, urban studies, visual arts, and related fields. Grantmaking focuses on the public dissemination of ideas through exhibitions, publications, research, and public programs.

The Guggenheim Fellowship is awarded annually to ~175 mid-career individuals — scholars, scientists, and artists — who have demonstrated exceptional capacity for productive scholarship or exceptional creative ability in the arts. Fellowships are awarded through an annual competition open to citizens and permanent residents of the United States and Canada. The program supports work in any field of knowledge and creation in any art form, under the freest possible conditions. Fellows are appointed for periods of six to twelve months and may use grants for research, creative work, travel, and living expenses.

The Sony Focused Research Award provides an opportunity for university faculty, research institutes, and Sony to conduct collaborative, focused research. The award provides up to $150K USD in funds, and may be renewed for subsequent year(s).

The Vision Grants program funds the collaborative planning of innovative, methodologically diverse, interdisciplinary research on education that contributes to transforming education systems for equity. Vision Grants are research planning grants to bring together a team, for 6 to 12 months, to collaboratively develop ambitious, large-scale research projects focused on transforming educational systems toward greater equity. This program takes as core that visionary, interdisciplinary, and collaborative research projects require time, space, and thoughtfulness to incubate and plan.

ACLS Fellowships provide up to $60,000 to support scholars for six to 12 months of full-time research and writing in the humanities and social sciences. The program recognizes outstanding scholarship across a broad range of fields, institutions, and career stages. Awardees who are independent scholars, adjunct faculty, or have teaching-intensive roles receive an additional stipend between $3,000 and $6,000. The fellowship is the longest-running ACLS program, supporting approximately 60+ scholars annually.

This program supports activities to strengthen the organizational infrastructure of small nonprofit organizations in the five boroughs of New York City that provide direct services to young people ages 5 to 25.

This award will support investigators conducting clinical, laboratory, epidemiological or any groundbreaking project aimed at improving our understanding of lung cancer and improving diagnostic, clinical and treatment methods.

This award was designed to gain a better understanding of the pathobiology and the immediate and long-term implications of respiratory infections. This includes emerging problems in known organisms as well as new and emerging pathogens.

For investigators conducting research to improve indoor air quality. Applicants should generate knowledge to inform interventions regarding healthy indoor environments and impact public policies. Up to $100,000/year for independent investigators or $50,000/year for mentored investigators, for up to three years.

This fellowship, offered in partnership with World Cancer Research Fund International and the Prevent Cancer Foundation, supports postdoctoral and clinical research fellows conducting research in cancer prevention. Proposed projects may be basic, translational, clinical, or population-based in nature and must have direct applicability and relevance to cancer prevention.

The BBRF Distinguished Investigator Grant supports experienced investigators (full professor or equivalent) conducting neurobiological and behavioral research. A one-year grant of $100,000 is provided for established scientists pursuing innovative projects in diverse areas of neurobiological research. Areas of particular interest to the Scientific Council's Selection Committee include patient populations with unique or unusual characteristics and central nervous system developments.

National Glaucoma Research, a BrightFocus Foundation program, funds U.S. and international researchers pursuing work that advances understanding, prevention, and treatment of glaucoma.

The LS3P Foundation supports research and innovation to improve and transform the built environment in the Southeast for social, environmental, health, economic, and community benefit. The Foundation funds projects focused on research, technology, and innovation that advance sustainable design, resilient communities, and equitable development outcomes. Geographic focus is on the Southeastern United States, with particular interest in addressing regional challenges related to climate adaptation and community well-being.

Terra Foundation Convening Grants support conversations, symposia, and workshops that stimulate interdisciplinary and intercultural exchange related to the visual arts of the United States and the Indigenous arts of North America.

This fellowship, offered in partnership with AstraZeneca, supports physician-scientists pursuing training and research in digital pathology and artificial intelligence. The program is intended to build capacity among clinician researchers applying computational and AI-based methods to pathology and cancer diagnostics.

The Career Awards for Medical Scientists (CAMS) is a highly competitive program that provides $700,000 awards over five years for physician-scientists, who are committed to an academic career, to bridge advanced postdoctoral/fellowship training and the early years of faculty service.

The Burroughs Wellcome Fund’s Career Award for STEM Teachers recognizes outstanding STEM teachers in North Carolina public primary and secondary schools. The award provides $175,000 over five years and is available to North Carolina teachers who have an outstanding performance record in educating children and who demonstrate a solid knowledge of their subject area.

The Caplan Foundation for Early Childhood supports innovative, creative projects and research that will significantly enhance the development, health, safety, education, and quality of life of children from infancy through seven years of age. The Foundation’s funding priorities are: Early Childhood Welfare, Early Childhood Education and Play, and Parenting Education.

Supports academic researchers in subject areas including simulation and modeling, data science, robotics and edge AI.

This program supports established institutes or centers in the mathematics and theoretical basic physical sciences through funding intended to help strengthen contacts within the international scientific community. The aim is to enable institutes to extend and enhance their missions. The program does not provide primary support for operating or establishing an institute.

Each Simons Symposia series brings together mathematicians, theoretical physicists and theoretical computer scientists to interact and collaborate in a series of up to three symposia, held every second year and focusing on one topic or a tightly connected group of topics.

This program aims to help meet the costs of travel to libraries and archives for research purposes; the purchase of microfilm, photocopies, or equivalent research materials; the costs associated with fieldwork; or laboratory research expenses.

The Northeast Asia Council of the Association for Asian Studies, with the Japan-U.S. Friendship Commission, supports grant programs in Japanese studies designed to facilitate individual scholarly research, improve teaching about Japan at college and precollege levels, and integrate the study of Japan into major academic disciplines. Grant types include research travel within the United States, short-term research travel to Japan, seminars on teaching about Japan, and small scholarly conferences.

This program supports bringing more patients, families, caregivers and the broader healthcare community into the research process, funding projects that build communities equipped to engage in patient-centered comparative clinical effectiveness research (CER).

The Russell Sage Foundation accepts proposals to organize its Summer Institutes, which bring together scholars for intensive training and collaboration in areas aligned with the foundation’s research priorities. RSF is currently accepting proposals to organize the 2027 Summer Institute on Democracy from the Margins.

The Simons Fellows in Mathematics program makes sabbatical research leaves more productive by providing funding to extend them from a single term to a full academic year. The program is run by the Simons Foundation's Mathematics and Physical Sciences division, whose grantmaking covers mathematics, theoretical physics and theoretical computer science.

The National Humanities Center Residential Fellowship is one of the most prestigious humanities fellowship programs in the world. Fellows receive a stipend of up to $70,000 for academic-year fellowships (or pro-rated for semester-long fellowships) plus travel expenses to enable continuous residency at the Center in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina from September through May. Fellows enjoy private studies, in-house dining, exceptional library and reference support, and a stimulating interdisciplinary intellectual community. Mid-career, senior, and emerging scholars from all areas of the humanities with strong peer-reviewed publication records are encouraged to apply.

Susan G. Komen Career Catalyst Research (CCR) Grants foster promising breast cancer researchers who are in the early stages of their faculty careers by providing support for up to three years of “protected time” for research career development under the guidance of a Mentor Committee. It seeks to support those who will emerge as the next key leaders in the fight against breast cancer.

There is an urgent need for new and improved therapies for ALS, as there is still no cure. Since 2016, the Lawrence and Isabel Barnett Drug Development Program has supported the preclinical assessment of new and repurposed ALS therapies by awarding grants worth up to $500,000 over two years. This program prioritizes projects that have a high probability of reaching the clinic within three years. Both novel programs and repurposing of approved or clinically safe therapies from other disease indications are appropriate. Clinical trials will not be supported through this funding opportunity, nor will early drug discovery studies proposing high-throughput screening, hit-to-lead and lead optimization.

This program supports research to advance fundamental knowledge of relevance to STEM education policy, foster significant science using education data, promote equity in STEM, and build research capacity in education and learning.

The Simons Foundation has launched an international collaborative research program designed to fill fundamental scientific knowledge gaps relevant to Solar Radiation Management. The program is open to investigators and other career stages and is run through the Mathematics and Physical Sciences division.

The Career Development Award (CDA), funded through Conquer Cancer, the ASCO Foundation, provides research funding to clinical investigators who have received their initial faculty appointment as they work to establish an independent clinical cancer research program. This is a mentored award; the research is conducted under the guidance of a scientific mentor and must have a patient-oriented focus, including a clinical research study and/or translational research involving human subjects (in vitro or animal-only studies are not allowed). Applications in all areas of cancer research are accepted from U.S. and international applicants. The total award is $200,000 over three years ($66,666/year). For 2027, dedicated donor funding is available in select areas including palliative and supportive care in oncology and breast cancers.

Doctoral New Investigator (DNI) grants provide start-up funding for scientists and engineers in the United States who are within the first three years of their first academic appointment at the level of Assistant Professor or the equivalent.

The Alzheimer’s Association Research Grant for All (AARGA) program aims to fund early-career investigators who have been in the position of Assistant Professor or the equivalent for no more than seven (7) years. The purpose of this program is to provide newly independent investigators with funding that will allow them to develop preliminary or pilot data, to test procedures and to develop hypotheses. The intent is to support early-career development of newly independent researchers/clinicians that will lay the groundwork for future research grant applications to federal or other funding entities.

The Alzheimer’s Association recognizes the need to support the training of clinician scientists in Alzheimer’s and all other dementias. For the purpose of this program, a clinician scientist is defined as an individual already trained, licensed and practicing in a clinical field that includes patient contact (e.g., neurology, psychiatry, geriatrics, psychology) or patient-related diagnostic studies (e.g., neuropathology and radiology).

The Alzheimer’s Association recognizes the importance of supporting the early career development of promising researchers working to advance the understanding, diagnosis, and treatment of Alzheimer’s and all other dementias. Alzheimer’s Association Research Fellowship for All (AARFA) Program is designed to nurture the next generation of scientists by providing funding to postdoctoral researchers who have completed their doctoral training and are actively working in Alzheimer’s or dementia-related research under the mentorship of established investigators. This program aims to facilitate the transition of early career investigators toward becoming independent researchers, equipped to lead their own innovative studies in the field of Alzheimer’s and related dementias.

The AIA Upjohn Research Initiative supports applied research projects that enhance the value of design and professional practice knowledge.

Career Development Program (CDP) grants support researchers early and at different stages of their career: from those with less than two years of postdoctoral research to those who hold independent faculty-level positions. The grants are designed to encourage these promising young investigators to embark on academic careers, offering researchers the opportunity to take part in basic, translational, or clinical research to help understand and treat blood cancers and relevant premalignant conditions.

BrightFocus Foundation funds research to defeat Alzheimer’s disease, macular degeneration, and glaucoma. The Foundation supports innovative scientific research worldwide aimed at understanding disease mechanisms, developing effective treatments, and ultimately finding cures. BrightFocus also provides public education and resources to raise awareness and improve patient outcomes.

Several different career development awards are available for early career investigators working in various areas of dermatology: dermatologic surgery, dermatopathology, medical dermatology, public health, pediatric dermatology, women's health, science of human appearance, and more.

The Qualcomm Innovation Fellowship supports PhD students conducting innovative research in technical areas relevant to Qualcomm's business. Teams of two PhD students receive $100,000 to support their research, along with mentorship from Qualcomm engineers and researchers. Focus areas include 5G/6G wireless technologies, machine learning, computer vision, robotics, low-power computing, and mobile technologies. The fellowship is highly competitive, selecting approximately 15 teams annually from top research universities.

The Hunt Fellowship in Public Writing supports anthropologists who are writing serious nonfiction books for general audiences. Eligible projects may be trade books (published by major presses for general readers) or crossover books (published by academic presses but written and marketed for nonacademic readers). The fellowship encourages public writing that brings anthropological knowledge into wider conversations and raises the status of public writing within anthropology, especially for earlier-career scholars. The research forming the basis of the book must be complete at the time of application; the award supports focused writing, not new research.

This NIA Small Research Grant Program supports important and innovative research to improve the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and care for Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (AD/ADRD). Awards are $200,000 over two years. The program encourages early stage investigators to pursue AD/ADRD research careers and stimulates established researchers new to AD/ADRD to develop innovative research programs.

This award recognizes an individual who has made significant research contributions in the search for the cause, prevention of, and cure for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). The criteria being used to determine the recipient include recent major scientific impact, long-term scientific impact, and overall impact to ALS. Funded by the Essey family through the American Brain Foundation and presented in partnership with the ALS Association, the ALS Network, and the American Academy of Neurology. Recipient is expected to present a 20-minute lecture during a scientific session at the 2027 AAN Annual Meeting.

The Sheldon Danziger Pipeline Grants Competition supports early-career scholars (Assistant Professors, Lecturers, and Adjunct Assistant Professors) researching economic mobility and access to opportunity in the United States. The program prioritizes applications from scholars who are underrepresented in the social sciences and/or employed at under-resourced colleges and universities. Grantees are paired with mentors and present findings at a summer conference.

RSF makes external grants for social science research projects that address questions of interest under its research priorities. RSF is accepting letters of inquiry (LOIs) under its core programs for Behavioral Science and Decision Making in Context (BSDMC) and Race, Ethnicity, and Immigration (REI) and its special initiatives on Immigration and Immigrant Integration (III) and Implications of the 2023 Supreme Court Decision to Ban Race-Conscious Admissions at Colleges and Universities for Educational Attainment and Economic Mobility (SCD23).

The AERA Undergraduate Student Education Research Training Workshop introduces undergraduate students to education research, building awareness of the field and preparing participants to pursue graduate study and research careers in education.

The Robert H. N. Ho Family Foundation Early Career Research Fellowships in Buddhist Studies support recent PhDs and untenured faculty pursuing research projects in Buddhist studies. Fellows undertake scholarly research projects leading to publications, exhibitions, or other forms of dissemination. The program supports research across all aspects of Buddhist traditions, including textual studies, philosophy, art, history, anthropology of contemporary practice, and interdisciplinary approaches to Buddhism worldwide.

The Robert H. N. Ho Family Foundation Dissertation Fellowships in Buddhist Studies support PhD candidates writing dissertations on any aspect of Buddhist studies. The program funds research on Buddhist traditions, texts, art, philosophy, history, and contemporary practice across all geographic regions and historical periods. Fellows receive stipends to support full-time dissertation research and writing, contributing to the global development of Buddhist studies as a field.

This program supports graduate students pursuing research on the history of art and visual culture of the United States, including all aspects of Native American art, at any stage of PhD dissertation research or writing. The program offers seven fellowships for a non-renewable, continuous nine- to twelve-month term. The fellowships may be carried out in residence at the fellow's home institution or any other appropriate site for research. ACLS believes that humanistic scholarship is strengthened by the inclusion of a wide range of perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences. This program is made possible by the generous support of the Henry Luce Foundation.

This fellowship supports dissertation projects that expand the traditional boundaries of doctoral research through new methodologies, innovative dissertation formats, and collaborations with partners within and beyond the academy. The program makes awards to doctoral students who show promise of leading their fields in important new directions. Fellowships are designed to intervene at the formative stage of dissertation development, before writing is advanced, supporting emerging scholars' innovative approaches to dissertation research. SISECSE is a two-week residential workshop that provides scholars of Eastern Europe time and space to dedicate to their own research and writing in a collaborative and interdisciplinary setting. ACLS in partnership with the Centre for Advanced Study Sofia convenes leading scholars from Eastern Europe and North America for a two-week residency in Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria. The program provides participating scholars with the opportunity to undertake local fieldwork, including archival or collections research, interviews, site surveys, or other forms of data collection. The Russell Sage Foundation’s Social, Political, and Economic Inequality program prioritizes research on how inequalities shape political behavior, representation, and democratic processes. The call highlights interest in the causes and consequences of partisan polarization, the responsiveness of elected officials, and how disparities in access to political power, information, and institutions influence democratic outcomes.

The Research-Practice Partnership (RPP) Grants Program supports education research projects that engage in collaborative and participatory partnerships with project budgets up to $400,000 and durations of up to three years. The Foundation views partnerships as an important approach to knowledge generation and the improvement of education, broadly construed. E.W. "Al" Thrasher Awards focus on projects that are changing pediatric clinical care. Each award is a novel approach to problems plaguing pediatrics. The award is open to applications focusing on any disease or topic within the umbrella of pediatrics, both in and outside the United States.

U.S. federal government-sponsored research funding has experienced a series of changes that challenges ongoing research initiatives and the future of the U.S. biomedical research enterprise. This program specifically aims to ensure continuity of career support for early career researchers and researchers who are within seven years of their designation as an Early Stage Investigator (ESI) based on the NIH definition. Fellows receive a stipend of approximately $35,000 plus conference travel support. RRF funds research that seeks to identify interventions, policies and practices to improve the well-being of older adults and/or their caregivers. The Wenner-Gren Foundation Post-PhD Research Grant funds individual research projects undertaken by doctorates in anthropology or a closely related field. The Foundation supports vibrant and significant work that furthers understanding of what it means to be human. There is no preference for any methodology, research location, topic, or subfield. The Foundation particularly welcomes proposals that integrate two or more subfields and pioneer new approaches and ideas.

In 2006 the American Philosophical Society and the NASA Astrobiology Institute partnered to promote the continued exploration of the world around us through a program of research grants in support of astrobiological field studies. The fund encourages exploratory field studies for the collection of specimens and data and to provide the imaginative stimulus that accompanies direct observation.

This award supports innovative research in the field of rheumatologic diseases with the potential to improve treatment, patient outcomes, and quality of care. The program provides independent investigators with funding to pursue ideas that could lead to important breakthroughs in discovering new treatments and, ultimately, a cure. Applicants must hold a doctoral-level degree (MD, PhD, ScD, DO, DPT, MBBS or equivalent) and have a faculty appointment at a U.S. academic institution at the time of application and for the duration of the award. A highlighted topic for 2026 is adult dermatomyositis research via the Norman Family Fund.

The ACLS Digital Justice Seed Grants support early-stage planning and exploration of digital humanities projects centered on justice, equity, and historically marginalized communities. Seed grants enable scholars to conduct preliminary research, build collaborative teams, develop project frameworks, and prepare for full-scale implementation. The program is designed to lower barriers to entry for digital humanities work by funding the often-unfunded planning and discovery phases of innovative projects.

This program supports projects that: critically engage with the interests and histories of people of color and other historically marginalized communities; advance beyond the prototyping or proof-of-concept phase and articulate the next financial, technological, and intellectual phases of project development; cultivate greater openness to new sources of knowledge and strategic approaches to content building and knowledge dissemination; engage in capacity building efforts.

The Luce/ACLS Early Career Fellowships in China Studies support recent PhDs and untenured faculty conducting research on China. Two tracks are offered: Flexible Fellowships (one academic year) and Long-Term Fellowships (two academic years). Fellows pursue research projects in any humanities or interpretive social science discipline focused on China, including history, literature, philosophy, anthropology, religious studies, art history, and related fields. The program aims to strengthen the field of China studies in North America.

This fellowship enables recent PhDs without tenure, within eight years of the PhD, to take leave from university responsibilities for four to nine months to carry out research and writing towards a significant scholarly product. The fellowship requires leave from teaching and service responsibilities and must be taken in consecutive months. Research may be conducted on any topic related to cultures, histories, and societies in China, and their influence and impact on communities, countries, and cultures around the world. The AERA Minority Dissertation Fellowship in Education Research was established to enhance the racial and ethnic diversity of faculty, scholars, and researchers who study topics in education research. The Fellowship Program aims to provide support for doctoral dissertation research, to advance education research by outstanding minority graduate students, and to enhance these students’ competitiveness for academic appointments at major research universities. It supports fellows conducting education research and provides mentoring, capacity building activities, and guidance toward the completion of their doctoral studies.

The ACLS HBCU Faculty Grants provide flexible funding to support the scholarly activities of faculty at Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Grants may be used for research-related expenses including travel, archival research, equipment, materials, conference participation, and other costs that advance scholarly projects in the humanities and interpretive social sciences. The program complements the HBCU Faculty Fellowships by offering smaller, more flexible support for ongoing scholarly work.

The ACLS HBCU Faculty Fellowships support faculty at Historically Black Colleges and Universities pursuing research in the humanities and interpretive social sciences. The program aims to strengthen humanistic scholarship at HBCUs and recognize the vital contributions of HBCU faculty to humanities research.

The Investigators in the Pathogenesis of Infectious Disease (PATH) program provides opportunities for assistant professors to bring multidisciplinary approaches to studying human infectious diseases. The program supports research that sheds light on the fundamentals that affect the outcomes of these encounters: how colonization, infection, commensalism, and other relationships play out at levels ranging from molecular interactions to systemic ones.

The foundation invites applications for its Distinguished Investigator Innovation Grants program. Grants of up to $150,000 over two years will be awarded to investigators at the level of associate professor or higher with an established record of research and publication. AFSP grants support studies aimed at increasing the understanding of the causes of suicide and factors related to suicide risk, or that test treatments and other interventions designed to prevent suicide. The American Philosophical Society is pleased to partner with the Green Bank Observatory to offer research support to scholars working in the field of astrobiology. Long-Term Fellowships are open to postdoctoral scholars for continuous residence at the Newberry for 4 to 9 months at $5,000 per month. This award supports and encourages outstanding physicians (MDs and DOs only) to pursue cancer research careers by providing them with a protected research training experience under the mentorship of a highly qualified mentor. The program aims to address the critical shortage of physician-scientists who can bridge the gap between laboratory research and patient care. Recipients must have completed residencies and clinical training, be board eligible, and commit at least 80% of their time to research. The award promotes unexplored ideas; therefore, preliminary data is not required and not accepted as part of the proposal. The principal investigator must hold a post-baccalaureate PhD degree or equivalent, or doctoral-level clinical degree, such as MD, DO, DVM, PharmD, or PhD in nursing, public health, or other clinical sciences.

The Arnold W. Brunner Grant supports mid-career architects conducting advanced architectural research on the practice, knowledge, or teaching of architecture. The grant aims to recognize and encourage architects who have demonstrated significant contributions to the profession and are poised to make further advances through scholarly research. Applicants do not need to be members of the New York chapter. Research topics may include architectural theory, design methodology, building technology, and architectural education.

This program provides up to $160,000 over 1-2 years to independent early stage investigators (MDs and PhDs) to conduct research in the biology of aging that will serve as the basis for longer term research efforts. The major goal is to assist in the development of careers of early career investigators committed to pursuing careers in aging research. Approximately 10 awards are given annually.

This award supports independent junior faculty conducting aging-related -omics research. One award of $160,000 over 1-2 years is given annually to support research that uses genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, or other -omics approaches to advance understanding of the biology of aging.

The Internet Society Foundation has announced a new grants program in support of researchers worldwide who are studying the future and sustainability of the Internet. Through the program, grants of up to $200,000 over two years are available for research focused on “Greening the Internet” or “The Internet Economy.”.

This funding announcement seeks to fund high-impact, patient-centered comparative clinical effectiveness research (CER) projects that focus on digital health technologies (DHTs). DHTs include tools and devices using computing platforms, connectivity, software and/or sensors to support the individual needs and values of patients. The Burroughs Wellcome Fund launched the Career Awards at the Scientific Interface in 1999 to foster the early career development of researchers who are transitioning from training environments in the physical, mathematical, computational sciences and/or engineering into postdoctoral work in the biological sciences, and who are dedicated to pursuing a career in academic research.

The Fellows-to-Faculty Award program supports talented early career scientists by facilitating their transition into tenure-track faculty positions. The award supports innovative clinical research including patient-based studies, clinical trials, diagnostic interventions, and outcomes research, with a focus on the "Handshake Rule" requiring direct patient involvement.

The Foundation invites applications for funding in support of new research professor positions in existing academic departments to be filled by scientific software-focused researchers. The SSRF Award will support researchers who have a strong track record of leadership in scientific software development. Awards are made as unrestricted gifts to the institution and may not be used for overhead or indirect costs. GARA replaces the Research Scholar Program, which Google concluded in 2025.

The Directed Research Grant supports research on a specific topic identified by the Scoliosis Research Society as a priority area for advancing the care of patients with spinal deformity.
