National Institutes of Health (NIH)Disciplines: HealthContinuation of the Cardiovascular Repository for Type 1 Diabetes (CaRe-T1D) Consortium - Research (U01 Clinical Trial Not Allowed)
Up to $500,000
The NIH Cardiovascular Repository for Type 1 Diabetes (CaRe-T1D) was created to improve research on type 1 diabetes (T1D) and cardiovascular disease (CVD). Cardiovascular complications remain the top cause of death among people with T1D and greatly shorten lifespan. The mechanisms underlying atherosclerosis, cardiomyopathy, endothelial dysfunction, and cardiac autonomic neuropathy in T1D remain poorly understood. While managing traditional risk factors—such as high blood glucose, high blood pressure, and elevated cholesterol lower cardiovascular risk, a significant residual risk remains even with optimal control. In addition to atherosclerosis, both diastolic and systolic diabetic cardiomyopathy play a major role in morbidity and mortality among these patients. Currently, no therapies are specifically approved to prevent or treat these common and severe cardiovascular issues in T1D. The purpose of this NOFO is to promote collaborative and interdisciplinary research aimed at enhancing the understanding of the development of CVD in individuals with T1D and the differences with CVD in T1D by continuing the efforts of the CaRe-T1D consortium.

Alfred P. Sloan FoundationDisciplines: STEM, Social Sciences, AI & Machine LearningExploratory Grantmaking in Technology
Exploratory grantmaking is intended to bring community needs and priorities into sharper focus and allow the Foundation to determine whether there is a clear strategy and potential impact in a specific area. AI in Science focus areas include reproducibility and transparency of machine learning-enabled science; ways that the philosophy of science and related fields might help to inform the optimal uses of machine learning to produce new knowledge; and the relative value of foundation models vs. good old fashioned machine learning for scientific discovery. Automation in Science focus areas include: Advances in robotics can enable the automation of many aspects of scientific lab and field work, especially when coupled with AI to dramatically accelerate iterative cycles of discovery. Though not substantially funding the implementation of these systems at scale, the Foundation is currently exploring their optimal uses by researchers as well as the institutional structures to support them.

National Science Foundation (NSF)Disciplines: STEMGeosciences Core Research: Atmospheric, Geospace, Earth and Ocean Sciences (GEO Core)
The NSF Geosciences Research solicitation supports foundational research projects that advance the frontiers of knowledge across all areas of the geosciences. This solicitation calls for proposals in three programs: Atmospheric and Geospace Sciences (AGS) Program; Earth Sciences (EAR) Program; and Ocean Sciences (OCE) Program. These programs support projects that expand the frontiers of knowledge in science and technology. The programs encourage projects that advance research on Earth's atmosphere and the near-Earth space environment; solid Earth sciences and Earth surface processes; and all fields of ocean science. Projects may focus on foundational research in a specific domain or cover multiple disciplines. NSF is particularly interested in intellectually ambitious and potentially transformative foundational research. Proposals need not promise a near-term product, deployment, or commercial outcome, nor need they address later-stage development to be competitive.
