FEDERAL AND FOUNDATION GRANTS
Grant Name: Initiative to Maximize Research Education in Genomics: Courses (R25 Clinical Trial Not Allowed) (NIH)
Summary:  The NIH Research Education Program (R25) supports research education activities in the mission areas of the NIH. The over-arching goal of this NHGRI R25 program is to support educational activities that complement and/or enhance the training of a workforce to meet the nation’s biomedical, behavioral and clinical research needs.
Eligibility:  There are no eligibility restrictions.
Dates:  Standard triannual NIH due dates apply.
Grant Name: ADVANCE: Organizational Change for Gender Equity in STEM Academic Professions (NSF)
Summary:  The NSF ADVANCE program provides grants to enhance the systemic factors that support equity and inclusion and to mitigate the systemic factors that create inequities in the academic profession and workplaces. Systemic (or organizational) inequities may exist in areas such as policy and practice as well as in organizational culture and climate. For example, practices in academic departments that result in the inequitable allocation of service or teaching assignments may impede research productivity, delay advancement, and create a culture of differential treatment and rewards. Similarly, policies and procedures that do not mitigate implicit bias in hiring, tenure, and promotion decisions could lead to women and racial and ethnic minorities being evaluated less favorably, perpetuating historical under-participation in STEM academic careers and contributing to an academic climate that is not inclusive.
Eligibility:  There are no eligibility restrictions.
Dates:  LOIs are due by May 5, 2019.
Grant Name: Manufacturing Engineering Education Program (DOD ONR)
Summary:  This program’s goal is to support industry-relevant, manufacturing-focused, engineering training at institutions including education, industry, nonprofit, and consortia of such institutions or industry. The purpose of this program is to establish new or to enhance existing programs (or collections of programs) to better position the current and next-generation manufacturing workforce to produce military systems and components that assure technological superiority for the DoD. Interested parties should focus programs on manufacturing education to support one or more distinct manufacturing technologies of DoD interest, for example: manufacturing of lightweight structures, systems and materials; robotics for manufacturing; manufacturing to exploit nanotechnology; manufacturing of components and systems for power generation, storage, or distribution; or manufacturing of multi-functional electronics and/or optical devices. Proposed efforts should develop and enhance curricula and programs to effectively develop skills sets needed for students to operate in multidisciplinary design and manufacturing environments, including those for which manufacturing schema are informed by computational tools for modeling and simulation.
Eligibility:  There are no eligibility restrictions.
Dates:  Proposals are due by June 20, 2019.
Grant Name: Distance Learning and Telemedicine Grants (USDA)
Summary:  The DLT Program provides financial assistance to enable and improve distance learning and telemedicine services in rural areas. DLT grant funds support the use of telecommunications-enabled information, audio and video equipment, and related advanced technologies by students, teachers, medical professionals, and rural residents. These grants are intended to increase rural access to education, training, and health care resources that are otherwise unavailable or limited in scope.
Eligibility:  Beyond the basic requirements of qualifying as “rural” under USDA rubrics, there are no eligibility restrictions.
Dates:  Proposals are due by May 15, 2019.
Grant Name: Secondary Agriculture Education Challenge Grant Program (USDA NIFA)
Summary:  The Secondary Education, Two-Year Postsecondary Education, and Agriculture in the K-12 Classroom Challenge Grants (SPECA) program seeks to: (a) promote and strengthen secondary education and two-year postsecondary education in the food, agriculture, natural resources and human (FANH) sciences in order to help ensure the existence of a workforce in the United States that's qualified to serve the FANH sciences system; and (b) promote complementary and synergistic linkages among secondary, two-year postsecondary, and higher education programs in the FANH sciences in order to advance excellence in education and encourage more young Americans to pursue and complete a baccalaureate or higher degree in the FANH sciences.
Eligibility:  There are no eligibility restrictions beyond FANH requirements.
Dates:  Proposals are due by April 16, 2019.
Grant Name: American Psychological Foundation Accepting Applications for Visionary Grant Program
Summary:  The American Psychological Foundation is accepting applications for its Visionary Grants program. Through the program, grants of up to $20,000 will be awarded to programs that use psychology to address social problems in one of four priority areas: violence prevention; understanding the connection between behavior and health (e.g., wellness, diabetes, obesity); understanding and eliminating stigma and prejudice (e.g., race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, age, disability, and socioeconomic status); and applying psychology to vulnerable, at-risk populations (e.g., serious mental illness, returning military, those who are incarcerated, and the economically disadvantaged). Preference will be given to pilot projects that, if successful, would be strong candidates for support from major federal and foundation funding agencies as well as “demonstration projects” that promise to generalize findings broadly to similar settings.
Eligibility:  To be eligible, applicants must be no more than ten years postdoctoral.
Dates:  Proposals are due by April 1, 2019.
